Job Title: Port Hydrographer

Reporting to: Harbour Master
Requirements:
• Higher education to at least degree / diploma level in a relevant marine / geographical discipline
• Marine experience in a port or construction related background.
• Experienced in working with marine data sets, computing systems or similar
• Excellent communication skills.
• Able to work to own targets.
Main Duties:
• Supervision of hydrographic tasks within the Port of Southampton, including management of maintenance dredging works
• Scheduling and verifying quality of hydrographic surveys within the port, and compliance with all local and national requirements / regulations
• Advising Harbour Master, other marine personnel and port management on Hydrographic matters.
• Data reduction and processing when required, but in particular checking the quality of these procedures.
• Maintaining existing equipment and systems to ensure they remain reliable.
• Management of licences and permissions for dredging and other works, and liaison with licensing authorities, and environmental organisations.
• Undertaking other related duties as directed by the Harbour Master.
